ZenMan In Love
I’ve always been fascinated by Neural Networks. With no prior knowledge of language, they tirelessly attempt to create language based only on the analysis of texts given to them. When usually comes out is a kind of bizarre poetry; a mix of amusing mistakes often made by someone learning a new language and the delirious speech of someone coming down from heavy anesthesia.
As a challenge, I worked with director Klaas Diersmann to see if an AI Neural Network could write something funny if given nothing but old Romantic Comedy scripts to “read”.
After numerous false starts, the software, called ZenMan, created a short screenplay. We then set about making it without changing a word in the script. There weren’t many stage directions, so we had some creative freedom there, but the dialogue in it’s bizarre awesomeness remains 100% faithful.
